1st November 2014
Following its incredibly successful debut in 2012 and equally outstanding turn out in 2013, the Australian National Busking Championships are back this year for the third time. Taking place on the first weekend in November each year, the National Busking Championships are quickly becoming an uniquely Australian tradition.
The championships happen in Cooma, the capital of the Snowy Mountains in New South Wales, and will be hosted by the Cooma Rotary Club. Buskers from all over Australia will be converging there this fall and will be transforming the streets of Cooma into a musical festival you do not want to miss. No matter what types of music you prefer, there will be something for your tastes in town, as the styles of the buskers are as varied as they themselves are.
Along with the National Busking Championships this year, there will also be The Big Busker Bash on October 31st. This night before the Championships will include not one, but three new events, displaying the talents of past champions, local talents, and more. It is a new segment of the festivities this year and will be a great time to preview all the action taking place on Saturday the 1st of November. The Big Busker Bash will also be a great time for buskers to meet a greet each other before the big day.
On Saturday, the event begins in earnest. Make sure to get your busker dollars for $0.50 and use them to cast your vote for your favourite buskers. They will be competing for their share of $7,700 worth of prizes! Casting your vote also enters you for a chance to win some cash yourself, in the Lucky Buskers Dollar Draw.
If you are a busker yourself, come and join in on the fun. Head on over to Cooma and spend the day doing what you love by making music outdoors whilst entertaining hundreds of people at the same time. Place your hat on the ground in front of you and make a bit of money whilst you compete for the great variety of prizes on offer throughout this colourful event.
The entire even is free to attend and is well worth the trip. But remember, the buskers there will have their hats out, and they are well worth the tip. Some buskers are incredibly talented, so why not show your support for them by throwing a coin or two into their hats whilst they wow and amaze you with their skills?
It is all happening a short trip away from your accommodation at Snowy Mountains, and would be an excellent outing from Pender Lea Chalets. Mark your calendars for this event you will not want to miss.
