    Fly fishing on the Thredbo River – an anglers dream

    Pender Lea is lined by the Thredbo River, where you’ll find some of the best fishing in the whole of Australia. Only Pender Lea guests have access to this exclusive fishing spot, teeming with trout swimming in pools, creeks and rapids.

    The river and creek fishing season starts in October on the Long Weekend and ends in June on the Long Weekend. If you’d like to fish outside of this season, head to Lake Jindabyne and Eucumbene where you’ll have the chance to catch rainbow trout, brown trout and salmon. If you’re not sure what you’re doing, you’ll be pleased to know that there are plenty of fishing guides in the area who will take you out and teach you everything you need to know about the sport.

    Craig Daly from Clearwater Fly Fishing is an incredibly knowledgeable and experienced guide who offers a number of lessons. First timers can take advantage of his beginner lessons which include all the necessary equipment; whereas more experienced fishing enthusiasts can learn how to improve their skills.

    Just 5 minutes from Pender Lea you will find Lake Crackenback resort which has a variety of mountain bike trails suitable for all levels of riders.  If you would like to test your skills there is a great pump track and mountain biking skills park.

    The trails wind around the lake and along the Thredbo River with great views of Kosciuszko National Park and historic Bullocks Hut.  The scenery is breath taking and the trails well maintained.   A great adventure for everyone.  Bikes can be hired from the resort or bring your own.

    Mountain Biking with family

    Thredbo

    At Thredbo you will find the infamous MTB Downhill and Kosciuszko Flow Trail, these adrenalin packed downhill runs starts at the top of Kosciuszko chairlift (1937m), right down to the village, a vertical drop of more than 560m.  If you would prefer to enjoy the breath taking mountain scenery than the thrills and spills of pure vertical decent Thredbo has several other mountain bike trails and features to suit all levels at Thredbo from beginner to advanced.

    To do the MTB Downhill run or Kosciuszko Flow Trail you will need to do a mandatory induction tour.     Thredbo Valley Track

    A very exciting development started 2 years ago with the construction of the Thredbo Valley Track.  The track when completed will join Thredbo Village to Bullock Flats with 19 km of shared use track running parallel to the Thredbo River.  The section between Thredbo Diggings and Bullock Flat has already been completed, along with 10 km heading downstream from Thredbo.

    There is something for everyone along this amazing track.  The track is easy riding, so perfect for the whole family.  The scenery is truly enchanting, you will travel through 400 year old mountain ash forests, snow gum woodlands & sub alpine grasslands.  Be amazed by the awe inspiring Porcupine Rocks and the mystical Muzzelwood swamp.

    There’s something for everyone along Thredbo Valley shared-use track. Load the car up with your mountain bikes; the track is easy, so offers great riding for all levels. You can also hike along it, taking in the many different types of plants and animals you pass along the way.

    Just down the road from Pender Lea you will find many great mountain biking tracks at Jindabyne.   Enjoy stunning views, over the lake with the inspiring snow capped mountains in the background. The Lake Jindabyne Community Trail now links Jindabyne to Tyrolean Village and is planned to traverse right around the lake in the near future.

    Tyrolean Village which is located on the Canberra side of the dam wall also offers a great selection of mountain bike trails for all levels.  You can ride from the top of the hill right down to the water and dam wall.

  • Climb Mt Kosciuszko

    Climb Mt Kosciuszko

    When you visit the Kosciuszko National Park a trip to the top of Australia is a must. Thredbo offers the closest access point to Mt Kosciuszko with the Kosciuszko Express Chairlift taking you part of the way climbing this mountain is an easy day walk for most people.  From the top of the year round chairlift you are only 6km from Australia’s highest peak. On your journey to the roof top of Australia you will cross the spectacular head waters of the Snowy River, discover the amazing unique flora and fauna, and be taken away by the magnificent 360 degree views at the summit.  The view takes in the Victorian High Country, the Main Range and Monaro tablelands.  Those who reach the summit receive a ‘I climbed Mt Kosciuszko’ Souvenir Certificate.

    The journey takes about 5 hours and the return distance from the top of the chairlift is 13kms.  Take a picnic lunch and at least 1 litre of water per person, along with a wide-brimmed hat, sunscreen and insect repellent and be prepared of all weather conditions in the alpine area.     Scenic Chairlift Ride in Thredbo

    For the chance to soak up awe-inspiring views which stretch all the way to Victoria and down to Lake Jindabyne, take the Kosciuszko Express Chairlift to the top of Ramshead Range. When you’ve reached the highest point, you’ll be rewarded with even more incredible vistas, this time of the picturesque Thredbo Village tucked into the green valley below.

    The Kosciuszko Express Chairlift ride lasts for 15 minutes and covers 1.8km in distance, rising up 560 metres in the air. It is open throughout the year and takes you to the best point from which to walk up Mount Kosciuszko.

    Bobsled in Thredbo

    Thredbo Village features a 700 metre bobsled which is fun for the whole family to enjoy. You can control exactly how slow or fast you go as you twist and turn down the mountain slide, making it safe for everyone from cautious little ones to daredevil grownups.

    During summer, the bobsled is open seven days each week from 10am until 5pm. You can buy tickets from Thredbo Sports which is found at the bottom of the Kosciuszko Express.

    Lake Jindabyne was created following the completion of the Jindabyne dam in 1967. Since then it has grown to become the perfect playground for water sport enthusiasts.

    This lake is so huge that it holds more water than Sydney Harbour, providing you with plenty of space to practice your favourite water sport. During the summer months, Lake Jindabyne is a fantastic place to soak up the sun lakeside, whilst also being the ideal temperature for enjoying a refreshing dip. If you’d like to feel the wind in your hair, try your hand at canoeing and sailing, or for something a bit more fast-paced, how about wakeboarding and water skiing?

    Australia’s highest golf course

    This nine-hole golf course is the highest in the whole of Australia and is found at the bottom of the Thredbo valley, framed by dramatic mountains and the enhancing Thredbo River. The best and most popular time to enjoy a round is in the late afternoon as the sun begins to dip and the temperatures slowly cool down. After your game, take it easy on the river banks and watch the trout swim by. If you’re lucky, you might catch a glimpse of the resident platypus family.
